Snehagiri Missionary Sisters (SMS)
Snehagiri Missionary Sisters (SMS) is a religious community in the Syro-Malabar Church with a specific chrisem witness the compassionate love of Jesus among the poor and abandoned deriving spiritual power and strength from the Holy Eucharist. The congregation was founded in the diocese of Palai, Kerala India on 24th May in 1969 by Rev Fr. Abraham Kaipanplackal. On 24th November 1994 and was raised in to the status of an Eparchial Congregation in the Syro-Malabar Church. On the 3rd September 2006 it became an Archie-Episcopal Congregation. On 3rd March 2008 the congregation was structurally divided into three provinces namely, St Thomas Province, Palai, St Mary's Province Kothamangalam and St. Joseph's Province Malabar.
At present the congregation has 460 professed members and 26 novices. The sisters are rendering their services in 20 Eparchies in India and abroad. The congregation has 88 houses in and outside India. In Kerala they are rendering their services in the diocese of Palai, Kanjirappally, Changanacherry, Idukki, Kothamangalam, Trivandrum, Ernakulam, Palakad, Thallassery, Manathavady and Thiruvalla. Outside Kerala they are working in the eparchies of Ujjain, Jagadalpur, Chanda, Kalyan and Mandya.
Snehagari Missionary Sisters started their services in Ujjain Mission in 1997. According to the need of the time and place here in this diocese they are engaged mainly in the educational apostolate. Together with the school ministry they work among the mentally challenged by establishing care centers. Senehagiri sisters give special attention for the upliftment of the rural areas through various activities. Their sisters also dedicate themselves for the spiritual nourishment of the faithful. At present 25 sisters are working in the eparchy of Ujjain at different mission stations. They are Agar, Zeerapur, Mehidpur, Gogapur, Ghonsla, Khilichipur and Kanad. SMS sisters are engaged in pure humanitarian services through aged homes, orphanages, house for handicapped (mentally and physically) and care centers.
